Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

First Annual Doodlers Challenge

Hello there darling doodlers!

To make up for my lack of participation in my beloved doodling these past few months, I have decided to hold an annual contest to help get everyone motivated and inspired!

Here's the official rules!
Starts 2/9/2012 at noon EST
Ends when the last doodler doesn't do a doodle within 24 hours of their last doodle.

Requirements for participation:  Must be a member of the daily doodlers group as of 2/9/2012 at noon EST

Doodlers must submit a doodle to the group every 24 hours to keep in the challenge.  The doodler who doodles the longest will win awesome prizes, including a custom doodle by me!  The longer the doodlers doodle, the bigger the prize pool becomes.  Also depending on the duration and how much people impress me, I may award some prizes to the runners-up.

Please keep in mind that while there are no restrictions on time or painting/drawing medium, if you constantly submit quick line doodles that took no longer than a few minutes, or are otherwise caught skirting your daily doodling in other clever ways, you may be disqualified at the judge's discretion.  Doodling is for your own benefit, I'm just here to push you along and make it more fun - so please use your doodling time to push your skills and improve!

Don't want to doodle but want to participate?  2 more judges are need to serve beside me and decide the fate of this contest!  If you don't have the desire to doodle daily but you want to still help out and have some fun, contact me (`mynti) by note and tell me why you want to help out.

Get your pencils sharpened, your paint tubes out, your tablets shiney and clean!   Let's get to the fun stuff, doodlers!

Says you cannot exceed 1 submission per day. I just tried to submit my second drawing (it's been 23.5 hours). How can we keep up the whole under 24 hours if we can't even submit it within 24 hours?

Heh, it is a trick to figure when is the best time to post each day - but luckily I am pretty lenient, as long as I see, at the end of the week, 6 or 7 doodles and each is seperated by an average day... I'm happy.
